What he did after the door was slammed shut shocked me. He sat, on the ground and like a child - weeped. His palms were covered with his tears and at last, he braved up like a man. He got up, turned to the door and knocked. But no answer - none at all. So I assumed what he had done was quite bad.
“I am,” he whimpered, “once again sorry Emma.” He had done this before - had cried like this before - had apologozed like this before. I’m sure of it, because it just doesn’t look like this is his first time. But this time, no response. The door stayed shut.
“Emma, I pray you’ll have it in your heart to forgive me, and take me back.” The door opened and her right hand went across his face.
“How dare you? Over and over again, you wish for me to take you back, after leaving me for your fantasies.”“I just want you back” his little voice whimpered.
“So you can break my heart again? Do you really take me for a fool?”
“I am sorry,” clasped his hands, “and I mean this with all my heart Emma,” he sniffed and reached to touch her face.
She slapped him again and began to weep herself.
“Why do you do this to me Thomas?”
“I have no excuses this time my love. I was directed wrong in my heart yet I come running back to you.”
She continued to weep and I, in the distance, knew in my heart that she is a fool and that they would make love and that she would be heartbroken again shortly. I closed my eyes and sighed - opened it right up hearing the door slammed again.
She shut the door and he remained outside. He slammed his head on the door - not once, but many times till it opened and she uttered the words “Enough!” And he walked away.
I smiled in my heart, dear reader. I pray that she won’t take him back, and for now - I shall plan a way for me to win her heart and make her forget what she had endured with that vile man.
This is good. Right? Is this good my dear reader?
Thank you my dear friends for reading this short piece of mine. I’m experimenting with fiction daily and thought I’d share this. The title brought me trouble but I settled on Chance because the hero now has a chance to sweep in and win the heart of Emma. Only the words know if he would. But oh well.
I hope you’re well, hope you’re enjoying the week. I am now away from the social worlds. Besides publishing on substack and on my website, I’ll stay away for a while. But I'll be back soon to stay.
Till next time,
