Basics things we’ve ignored once or twice while marketing.

  • We’ve ignored our who. This is by far the most ignored thing by business owners. We want to sell to everyone so we ignore the ideal customer/client.
  • Testing. Mainly due to fear of wasting money and also due to pressure to be on social media and have “presence.” In short, no thoughts about what works through testing.
  • Ignoring following up. Scared of being a burden? I think that’s it.
  • Tracking how customers come. I see this in the restaurants I’ve dined in. They never ask how I heard about them. Why? Because they expect I’d come back with good service. Not ideal.
  • Capturing data. Again, this could be a “scared” situation as well. Who wants to ask for a stranger’s name, phone number, email, address, date of birth but a marketer that wants to retain the customer?
  • Not asking for the sale. Timidity sucks but the salesman lives this way and the business owner lives this way as well. Have you ever had a client/customer walk out of your store without asking for the sale? Tsk tsk tsk
  • Ignoring what truly matters! Results! Nowadays, it’s all about metrics like likes, reshares, loves and comments. Well, I don’t see a bank that takes those so why do you?

That’s my short list for the day. I might add to this another day. Thanks for reading! If you’re a business owner looking to generate more clients and retain them with marketing that works, send an email to godwin@avalonv.com
